Reviews for "Persist"

Not bad.

lol
these are the same sound efects of depict1

anyway its a good game

AdventureIslands responds:

Sound effects are randomly generated using bfxr sound maker. I guess depic1's sounds are made with it too, perhaps?

my main gripe is that some of the jumping seems to be pixel perfect. at one point in the first water level, and when your invisible, I'm at the end of the platform, and try to jump up to a higher platform, but 9/10 times i don't make for some reason.

Persist offers up a few interesting concepts to the traditional platformer that make for an enjoyable playthrough, and it's very short gameplay actually works to its favour, given that the mechanics displayed are minimalist by nature and as such have little staying power on their own.

However, the weakest aspect of its design is by far its story. With paper-thin characterization and motivation given, the game throws away basic rationale to achieve its narrative. When the circumstances surrounding the hero and the Goddess are revealed, one can't help but wonder why things are the way they are. *SPOILERS AHEAD*

Given that the hero is actually someone who assaulted the Goddess in reality, why would he die to bring her back to life? Why are they both in the hospital and both in critical condition? Why does the Goddess have the ability to destroy him in her world, and yet depends on his penance to be saved? It just raises too many questions, and frankly detracts from an otherwise simple story.

Don't like the way the character "catches" on the floor or walls. Makes a lot of jumps way harder to make than they really should be. Other than that a really solid platformer. Liked the story up until the somewhat pretentious reveal at the end.
